Regina (Jean) Winkler began as the new director of K-8 English Language Arts, effective September 2.
Winkler joins Niskayuna’s administrative staff with more than nine years combined experience teaching and coordinating in the area of English Language Arts (ELA) at the elementary and middle school level. She most recently served as the Academic Administrator for Elementary Special Education in the Shenendehowa Central School District.
Winkler previously worked as Academic Intervention Services literacy teacher at W.K. Doyle Middle School in the Enlarged City School District of Troy. She was language arts coordinator and reading teacher for Grades K-5 at Westmere Elementary School in the Guilderland Central School District during the 2005-06 school year. Winkler initially spent six years as a Grades 6-8 reading/writing specialist at Bethlehem Central Middle School.

“Jean is a highly-motivated educator who has demonstrated talent as a leader in elementary- and middle-level literacy,” said Superintendent of Schools Kevin Baughman. “She comes highly-recommended to the district for her collaborative nature and strong staff development skills.”

Winkler completed her undergraduate degree in English at the State University of New York at Potsdam, and later completed a Master of Science degree in Reading at the University at Albany. Winkler earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration and Leadership from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She holds professional membership in the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. Winkler has served as a staff developer to other school districts as well as an adjunct instructor for The College of Saint Rose.
