Regina (Jean)
Winkler began as the new director of K-8
English Language Arts, effective September 2.
Winkler joins Niskayuna’s administrative staff
with more than nine years combined experience
teaching and coordinating in the area of English
Language Arts (ELA) at the elementary and middle
school level. She most recently served as the
Academic Administrator for Elementary Special
Education in the Shenendehowa Central School
District.
Winkler previously worked as Academic
Intervention Services literacy teacher at W.K.
Doyle Middle School in the Enlarged City School
District of Troy. She was language arts
coordinator and reading teacher for Grades K-5
at Westmere Elementary School in the Guilderland
Central School District during the 2005-06
school year. Winkler initially spent six years
as a Grades 6-8 reading/writing specialist at
Bethlehem Central Middle School.
“Jean is a highly-motivated educator who has
demonstrated talent as a leader in elementary-
and middle-level literacy,” said Superintendent
of Schools Kevin Baughman. “She comes
highly-recommended to the district for her
collaborative nature and strong staff
development skills.”
Winkler completed her undergraduate degree in
English at the State University of New York at
Potsdam, and later completed a Master of Science
degree in Reading at the University at Albany.
Winkler earned a Certificate of Advanced Study
in Educational Administration and Leadership
from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
She holds professional membership in the
National Council of Teachers of English and the
International Reading Association. Winkler has
served as a staff developer to other school
districts as well as an adjunct instructor for
The College of Saint Rose.
