U.S.
Department of Education official presents
certificate honoring Rosendale Elementary School
for academic excellence It’s
not everyday that a federal official stops by to
present a certificate recognizing your school as
one of the best in the nation. However, that is
exactly what happened at Rosendale Elementary
School during an all-school assembly on Monday,
October 29.
U.S. Department of Education Regional
Representative Orysia Dmytrenko joined the
entire school community and specially invited
guests, including retired teachers, school
administrators, and local and state dignitaries
to celebrate Rosendale’s selection as a 2007 No
Child Left Behind–Blue Ribbon School.
“On behalf of Secretary of Education Margaret
Spellings, I want to thank all of you for your
hard work, and congratulate you on the
excellence you have achieved in receiving
recognition as a Blue Ribbon School,” she said.
Principal Brian Aylward was notified in early
October that Rosendale had been named a national
school of excellence — one of only 16 schools in
New York State and among 287 schools nationwide
to receive this designation.
“This
award is the result of an evolutionary process
that has been going on for a long time,” he
said. “It has been a privilege to work with such
a dedicated group of people—teachers, staff,
parents and especially students,
during the past 16 years.”
The No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon School
program recognizes private and public K-12
schools for either exceptional academic
performance or for demonstrating significant
gains in student achievement. Rosendale was
nominated to apply for the award based on the
school’s overall performance on state tests.
Aylward and a seven-member committee spent
several months working on the application.
