Congratulations
Class of 2006!
Proctor's Theatre in
Schenectady was standing-room-only on Thursday, June 22, as
family, friends, faculty, administrators and staff congratulated
Niskayuna High School's Class of 2006.
Nearly 400 graduates walked across the stage to collect their
diplomas following an evening of memories, music, inspiration
and tradition. Class of 2006 President Elena Leece reflected on
her high school years and shared encouraging words about the
future, before passing the school flag to President of the Class
of 2007, Alexandra Leece, her sister. Graduating seniors
presented three crowd-pleasing musical performances. Darin
Gregory and Eric Zhou performed a classical piece, “Meditation
from Thais” by Julius Massenet. James Mobley and Adam Schwartz
performed an original song, “Dear Liza,” written by Schwartz.
Finally, Anthony Fallacaro, Darin Gregory, James Mobley, Herbert
Reilly and Joseph Tardi rocked the house with their arrangement
of “True Reflections” by Boyd Tinsley.
Representatives of the Alief Independent School District in
Houston, Texas, paid a special visit to the commencement.
Assistant Superintendent of Public Relations Paula Smith and
Communications Coordinator Susan Castro presented a plaque
recognizing the Class of 2006 and the entire Niskayuna school
community for raising more than $15,000 during the school year
to help support education for thousands of children displaced by
Hurricane Katrina.
Niskayuna High School Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Ronald Rivest,
an MIT professor and inventor of encryption code, offered advice
for succeeding in a rapidly changing world, including learning
more math than you think you'll need, asking lots of questions
in college, and traveling as much and as often as possible.
