High School's Concert Chorale invited to perform at the 2007 New
York State School Music Association's Winter Conference

The high school Concert
Chorale has been selected to perform at the 72nd annual New York State School Music Association's state
conference in Rochester the weekend of November 30–December
2. The conference presents an opportunity for Niskayuna's choral
students to perform before music professionals from across New
York. Choral Director
Paula Brinkman said the Niskayuna Chorale was one of only three
choirs invited to perform at the conference. "This invitation is
a big honor," Brinkman said. "The students have been doing a
stellar job preparing for a very difficult 30-minute program."
Drama
club promises more than a few chuckles with the comedy "Laughing
Stock"
When
high school drama club members Jacob Finkle and Dominick Izzo
saw “Laughing Stock” this past summer at the Curtain Call
Theater in Latham, they decided immediately that this was the
comedy they wanted to present at Niskayuna High School.
“Besides being very funny, Jacob and I thought it would be
interesting because the play is about all these crazy
behind-the-scenes activities that take place at a summer stock
theater,” said Izzo.
Performances of “Laughing Stock” will take place at 7:00 pm in
Niskayuna High School’s Little Theater on Thursday, Dec. 6 and
Friday, Dec.7, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Tickets are on sale to students and staff during high school
lunch periods, or may be purchased at the door. Tickets are $5
for students/seniors, and $6 for adults.

School
officials host second Community Budget Awareness Forum
on Dec. 10
The Niskayuna Central School District will present a second Community Budget Awareness Forum on Monday,
December 10 at
7 p.m. in the Iroquois Middle School library on Rosendale Road.
This second presentation is designed to provide a better
understanding of the often complex school budget development
process and raise awareness of the challenges associated with
balancing the district’s commitment to academic excellence with
the concerns of local taxpayers.
The program will offer an opportunity for the public to
learn about the many factors that affect school expenditures and
revenues. District officials will discuss the correlation
between property taxes and state aid and explain how property
reassessment in the Town of Niskayuna will affect school taxes
in 2008-09. They will also review key areas that drive school
budgets and outline the district’s ongoing efforts to stabilize
or reduce costs, and generate additional revenue.
Parents and community members will have an opportunity to ask
questions about school budget development during each program.
Foreign
students share their impressions of Niskayuna High School with
community
Jonathan
Tanlongo had not seen snow before. “It doesn’t snow in my
country,” said the foreign exchange student from Ghana in West
Africa who is attending Niskayuna High School this year.
Tanlongo shared with members of Niskayuna’s Board of Education
his first experience snow tubing after nearly a foot of the
white stuff fell throughout the Capital Region in mid December.
“I made a big jump,” he said with one arm outstretched toward
the ceiling, “and then landed with my face in the snow.” A total
of seven foreign students are attending Niskayuna High School
this year. The four students who addressed the Board of
Education during the Dec. 17 meeting are here through the
American Field Service (AFS) program.
