Niskayuna
High School student recognized by Capital District Business
Review
Congratulations to
Niskayuna High School senior Brooke Knowlton who was
among five outstanding high school students to be recognized for
their potential as business leaders during the Capital District
Business Review’s 40 Under Forty awards on May 3 at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Albany.
The Business Review began recognizing 40 of the top executives of
large publicly held corporations, entrepreneurs, and small-business
owners from the capital region under the age of 40 seven years ago.
These individuals were nominated by the business community and
selected by an outside advisory panel based on their professional
success and community involvement. For the third year, The Business
Review has opened this up to include recognition of five outstanding
capital region high school students nominated by their teachers as
future business leaders. For the second consecutive year, Janice
Lindsay, from the Business Department at the high school, has had
her nominations selected. Last year, this prestigious award was
given to Shannon Archer.
Knowlton has been an outstanding leader in the classroom, on the
field, and within the community. Academically she has been
recognized as a Capital Region Scholar Athlete (2007), Niskayuna
Scholar Athlete (2002-2006), and is a member of the National Honor's
Society. Her leadership on the athletic field is second to none.
She has earned many honors playing soccer including being a
member of the U14, U15, U16, U17 National soccer team, two time
All-American (2005 & 2006), 1st Team All State (2006), Times Union
and Fox 23 Girls Soccer Player of the Year (2006), and has received
a 5-year full scholarship to Boston College to study
Business/Communications. Knowlton recently returned from Brazil after
playing against the Brazilian Full Women's National Team. She
also holds the record for the 200m run set back in her freshman
year. Somehow Knowlton manages to find time to lead by volunteering in
and out of school. As Co-President of the DECA Club, Brooke was
instrumental in running a successful Adopt-An Angel Campaign. She
has also worked at the PTO Craft Fair, tutors French students at
Iroquois Middle School, and teaches developmentally and physically
challenged adults soccer at the Wildwood Program. "Brooke truly is a
remarkable young woman and is well deserving of a Future Business
Leader award," said business teacher Janice Lindsay.
