Niskayuna High School student recognized by Capital District Business Review

Niskayuna High School senior Shannon Archer was among the five outstanding high school students – selected from a long list of nominations – recognized for their potential as business leaders during the Capital District Business Review’s 40 Under Forty awards on May 4, 2006.
Archer, who was nominated by her business education teacher Janice Lindsay, attended a luncheon at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Albany hosted by John Gray of Fox 23 News. Archer has a long list of qualifications that include: President of DECA Club, DECA two-time medalist (DECA is a national Business/ Marketing club), National Honors Society member, captain of the swim team, volunteer for school and community activities, and writer of Not to Be Blunt for eCommerce’s scoresup.com website. She also sells banner ads and designs flyers and t-shirts for fundraisers for the eCommerce Scholarship Fund. Her awards include: 2005 Scholar Athlete Award, Lacrosse Klosterman Unsung Hero Award, Jr. Class Business Award, Merit Awards in Business and Art, Business and Marketing Educators’ Outstanding Business Education Student of 2006. In addition to her many business courses, Archer has also taken AP courses in English II, Micro Economics, and AB Calculus while maintaining a 3.7 GPA after 4 years.
The annual awards recognize 40 people who are under 40 years old and are considered movers and shakers in the Capital Region because of the key roles they play in shaping their communities and businesses for years to come. This year’s winners were selected from 240 applications.
