Niskayuna
Foreign Language Department receives prestigious
state award for outstanding program
Congratulations to the Niskayuna Foreign
Language Department on being selected a
recipient of the James E. Allen Award. This
award is presented annually by New York State's
Association of Foreign Language Teachers to an
outstanding language program in each region of
the state. Niskayuna's language department was
selected from among schools in the Capital
Region based on strength of curriculum,
innovative programs, community involvement, and
exchange activities as well as student
performance on state and national assessments
and teacher professional activity.
The Allen Award will be presented to members of
Niskayuna's Foreign Language Department next
fall at the NYSAFLT conference.
In her letter
informing Niskayuna Central School District
about being selected for the award, Colleen
Sheehan, chairperson of the NYSAFLT Allen
selection committee, wrote the following:
"Your department's submission was an impressive
portfolio that truly showed that your school has
an exemplary program for languages. We were
amazed at the depth of your program and the
dedication of your teachers. It is clear that
the community of Niskayuna is involved and
supports your program and teachers.
Congratulations on an outstanding job. We hope
that you will inspire other Capital District
LOTE departments to achieve the same high
standards that your department has attained."
