Imran Abbasi named assistant middle schools
principal
Imran Abbasi
began serving as the new assistant middle schools
principal, effective September 2.
Before joining
Niskayuna, Abbasi served as the assistant
principal for grades 6-12 at the Cairo-Durham
Junior-Senior High School. He previously taught
grade 7 social studies for six years in the
Bethlehem Central School District. Abbasi began
his career in education working as a grades 7-8 English
Language Arts/Social Studies teacher in an
at-risk intervention program at the
Livingston Magnet Academy in Albany.
Superintendent of Schools Kevin Baughman’s
recommendation to appoint Abbasi followed an
extensive search process that included input
from parents, staff and administrators.
“Imran possesses extensive knowledge of teaching
and learning at the middle school level," said
Superintendent Kevin Baughman. "His skills and
his high level of energy and enthusiasm will
make him a valuable asset to both the Van
Antwerp and Iroquois school communities."
Abbasi graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State
University at Albany with a bachelor’s degree in
social studies education. After completing his
master’s degree in curriculum development and
instructional technology, he earned his School
District Administration Certification from the University at Albany.
