This event is specifically for students who have
an IEP or receive 504 services and are planning
on attending college in the future. While all
are welcome to attend, the evening will focus on
the transition from high school to college, and
would be of most immediate interest to
sophomores, juniors and seniors.
The panel presentation will feature
representatives from area colleges highlighting
topics of interest to college-bound students
with disabilities.
They will answer questions and concerns about
attending college by presenting topics such as:
how college differs from high school and the
levels of support services and accommodations
that are available on campuses. Panelists will
also discuss the type of documentation that is
necessary to access services and accommodations
in college, and when to submit that
documentation.
A College Fair will follow the panel
presentation. Disability Resource Center
Representatives and/or Admissions Counselors
from local colleges will have tables set up to
talk directly with students and parents and
answer their questions. There will be plenty of
handouts for families to take home and help them
with the college process.
The colleges that are planning to attend this
event are: Saint Rose, SAGE, Hudson Valley
Community College, Bryant & Stratton,
Schenectady County Community College,
Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and SUNY
Cobleskill.
