VA students see geological concepts firsthand on Indian Ladder Trail

Earlier this month, Van Antwerp Middle School sixth graders hiked the Indian Ladder Trail at Thatcher Park. They were guided by their science teacher, Mrs. Postlethwait, who made connections to student learning in earth science by describing the geological history of the area. She talked about concepts such as stratigraphy, erosion, fossilization, the nature of limestone, seismic activity and the impact of glaciers. Students had an opportunity to ask and answer questions. This activity allowed them to connect their learning in the classroom to one of the most geologically significant sites in our region.
