A reception prior to the Oct. 23 Board
of Education meeting was held to
formally welcome teachers new to the
district this year and to recognize the
volunteer service that Board of
Education members provide the community.
Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 is School Board
Recognition Week in New York State.
The reception gave Board members an
opportunity to talk with several of the
district's new teachers who were in
attendance. New teachers are
traditionally also introduced to the
entire faculty and staff as part of the
district's Opening Day events at the
beginning of the year. (A
list of teachers new to the district
this year appears at the bottom of
this page.)
In what is also Niskayuna tradition,
school librarians order a few books each
year to be set aside and added to the
library in the names of each of the
Board members as a lasting symbol of how
Board members' contributions touch the
lives of all current and future
students. During the reception, members
had a chance to look at the books being
given in their names and sign each of
them.
At the reception, Superintendent Susan
Kay Salvaggio thanked Board members for
their countless hours of volunteer
service to the district and the
community, their hard work, dedication,
and vision.
"We would not have the district that we
have in Niskayuna without you - and we
know it," Salvaggio said.
Salvaggio read from a
proclamation from New York State
Governor Andrew Cuomo that honored the
state's Board members for School
Board Recognition Week.
