Join a Parent-Teacher Organization
Each school has a PTO that provides many
opportunities for interested parents and
teachers to exchange information and opinions.
Each PTO sponsors a range of programs and events
throughout the school year, including
assemblies, cultural arts programs, after-school
enrichment activities, reading programs and
recreational activities. Evening PTO meetings
are listed on
the
online district calendar.
To get involved,
contact your child's school PTO presidents
(through the school telephone numbers listed
below). Contact names for 2009-10, and Web pages (if
applicable) are also listed below.
The
NiskyPTO.org Web site was established in the
fall of 2006. Its mission is to provide a
centralized information resource for all
Niskayuna PTO communications, thereby bridging
the gap between school and home for student
enrichment activities.
Recently, the PTO
Web site was redesigned by its volunteers. The
biggest change is the new PTO Bulletin Board.
The Bulletin Board is a PTO-moderated
communication service that allows members to
post calendar events, homepage announcements,
and email distributions. Another big change is
NiskyPTO's "going green" initiative, in which
traditional paper forms and newsletters are
posted online or emailed rather than printed and
mailed home. The PTO also invites parents,
teachers, and students to subscribe to mailing
lists for each school. Subscribers get a
two-week agenda of events every Sunday by email.
