Attention Parents
A Level 3 sex
offender has moved into the Niskayuna community. Please see the
letter below from Superintendent Kevin Baughman, which was mailed to
all parents July 21, 2004.
Dear Parents:
New York State Law permits law enforcement
authorities to share certain information with
school districts relating to paroled sex
offenders who take up residence in the school
district. We have received information that a
paroled sex offender is now residing in our
school district. The parolee is tracked through
the Sex Offender Registry and regularly
monitored by the Schenectady County Probation
Department. The parolee is classified as a risk
level three offender, indicating he represents a
potential high risk to the community.
Due to the risk level, the Department of Justice
Criminal Services permits the release of the
name, address, picture and description of the
individual. The level three paroled sex offender
is:
Theodore Pochily, 736 Pearse Road, Niskayuna, NY
Attached is a detail
sheet on the parolee. This information is
also listed on our district web site at
http://www.niskayunaschools.org. You may
obtain more information on the Sex Offender
Registration Act as well as access the New York
State database of level 3 sex offenders on the
internet at
http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/search_index.htm.
You may also call the Sex Offender Registry at
1-800-262-3257 or the Niskayuna Police at
386-4584.
Be assured that the protection and safety of all
children is our most important priority within
our school community. We encourage you to review
with your children appropriate safe practices
including:
-Be very cautious of strangers.
-Do not get close to a car when a stranger is asking for
information.
-Do not walk alone.
-Report to an adult any unusual events.
By joining together with law enforcement, we can
create a safe environment for our children.
Sincerely,
Kevin S. Baughman
Superintendent of Schools
