Attention Parents

A Level 2 sex offender has moved into the 12302 zip code. Please see the letter below from Superintendent Kevin Baughman, which is in the process of being mailed to parents.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

New York State Law permits law enforcement authorities to share certain information with school districts relating to paroled sex offenders who take up residence in the school district. We have received information that a paroled sex offender is now residing in the 12302 zip code. The parolee is tracked through the Sex Offender Registry and regularly monitored by the Schenectady County Probation Department. The parolee is classified as a risk level two offender indicating the parolee represents a moderate risk to the community.

The school district was provided an information sheet on the parolee. The information includes the name, a description of the individual, the crime committed, and a photo.  [View the information sheet] Due to the moderate risk level, the actual address of the parolee was not provided to the school district per guidelines of the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. The information sheet is provided for parent information. Please be assured that applicable district employees have been alerted to this situation.

You may obtain more information on the Sex Offender Registration Act as well as access the New York State database of sex offenders on the Internet at http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/search_index.htm. You may also call the Sex Offender Registry at 1-800-262-3257 or the Glenville Police at 384-3444.

Be assured that the protection and safety of all children is our most important priority. We encourage you to review with your children appropriate safe practices including:

* Be very cautious of strangers.
* Do not get close to a car when a stranger is asking for information.
* Do not walk alone.
* Report to an adult any unusual events.

By joining together with law enforcement, we can create a safe environment for our children.

Sincerely,

Kevin S. Baughman
Superintendent of Schools
