              WELCOME!   The Niskayuna Central School District is pleased to support, deliver, or help coordinate community events and programs that promote interaction between the generations and cultures in our diverse community.  Please contact the sponsoring group for specific program information. The following sessions are scheduled for the school year 2008-09, September through December.
                

Storytelling:  In conjunction with the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks:  "Hitch'em Up Matilda & other Mountain Tales"  with Rev. Kent Bushman at the Paul Schaeffer House, 897 St. David's Lane- *Wednesday, September 24  6:30 p.m.
*This is the final night of a four session series which began over the summer session. NEW REGISTRANTS Welcome!   In addition to the performance, CE registrants have a group learning session with the storyteller before the performance which takes place over a bring your own picnic supper.  Please contact the CE program office directly to register for this program. ( 377-4666 ext 50731).
 

Celebration of Literacy!   A family Night with children's author, Mike Thaler-  Wednesday November 5 ,at NHS Auditorium, 7 p.m.  Our school district media cancelled centers come together to present.  Link here after September 15 for details or contact the media center at your community school.  C E program fee for non-residents

 

                               In conjunction with the Schenectady Light Opera Company :        
                               "Theatre Basics, the TECH of it !" 
 Thursdays starting October 23 7-
                         9:30 p.m.  at SLOC , 826 State Street, Schenectady.  A series of  
                         workshops that explore the various technical aspects of the theatre: 
                        Theatrical Lighting and Sound Design; Set Design and Construction;
               Period Hair Styles & Make-up for the Stage; Costuming a Musical.   Includes the December 4 dress rehearsal for the company's fall production,  Suessical, the Musical. CE program fee.
 

COMMUNITY CHORUS- for Youth and Adults - on-going - Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m.  starting September 17, at Van Antwerp Middle School Auditorium Sponsored by The Whitney Club of GE Global Research.     contact: Mike Brun 387-6685  or Mary Anne Gauger at 387-6250.  also:  Community Education 377-4666 ext 50731. Johns Hopkins University: Center for Talented Youth -  "CTY"  Information Night- Tuesday, September 23, 7-8:30 p.m.,  Van Antwerp Middle School Auditorium.  for parents of children in grades 5-8 ( grades two and up, if interested)  JHU representative presents an overview of the CTY program:  what it is; how to qualify and apply; benefits of program.   Age-appropriate children, welcome.   NO FEE.

Theodore Roosevelt:  Conservationist and President: a 150th Birthday Recognition. October 15, 22, and 27, 6:30-8 p.m. at " the Paul Schaefer House", 897 St. David's Lane. This is the headquarters for the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks.  Interactive seminar researching areas of significance related to this President's accomplishments.  CE Program Fee. 
 

Walking School Bus:  Wednesdays Starting October 1.  Second Annual Initiative; as , planned and coordinated by Hillside Elementary School- Community Education Associate, Rebecca Cigal. For Information, contact her at rcigal@gmail.com 

Math Circle:   Fridays, starting November 7, 6-9 p.m. NHS Rm D208.  primarily aimed at high school students, advanced or highly skilled middle school students.  " Extreme Math" for those who have a passion for problem-solving Math.  Fun, interactive.
