2007-08 District Focus
Inherent
throughout the district activities listed below
is the focus on fostering and supporting high
quality instruction that leads to student
learning and achievement. We have many
initiatives on-going across our school district.
The District theme for the year is “Moving
Forward: Integration of Multiple Initiatives”.
The initiatives share the common thread of
contributing to an environment of high quality
instruction. The attachment provides a sample
listing of the many activities and initiatives
that are linked together to form a network
promoting quality instruction.
Planning
Review previous elementary class size guidelines
and recommendations and develop a Board of
Education approved phased-in elementary class
size reduction plan implemented in 2009-10.
Program
Review and evaluate the academic intervention
supports at the high school matching outcomes to
intended objectives of programs including the
Integrated Regents Program
(IRP); School to Work; Individualized Success
Plan (ISP); and the High School Assistance Team.
After formation of a Study Team, explore the
feasibility of integrating foreign language
instruction in the elementary level determining
the appropriate levels of language introduction,
the language(s) offered; the allocation of time;
the best delivery methods; cost impact; and
possible recommended phase-in.
Review the current delivery and availability of
appropriate services to the district’s most
highly academically talented students and
explore and recommend any additional program
opportunities for highly academically talented
students both within and outside the regular
classroom.
Continue implementation of the modified Grade
9-12 Technology Education Curriculum to meet the
demand for skills needed in preparation for
future 21st century applications including
program expansion in the Project Lead the Way
initiative.
Facilities/Resources/Personnel
Continue to manage and coordinate the $94.5
million district wide school renovation and
construction project as well as the $4.7 million
EXCEL school safety enhancement project.
Monitor and coordinate the introduction and
integration of three new key administrative
personnel into the school district including
the: 1) Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
and Educational Programs; 2) Director of K-12
Counseling Services; and 3) Assistant Middle
School Principal/Director of English Language
Arts for Grades 6-8.
Continue implementation of the district wide
student data management software, PowerSchool,
that will track student academic progress,
manage student schedules and attendance,
transcripts, report grades and assignments in a
secure network environment, and ultimately be
accessible from home or school by students,
parents and staff. (Multi-year activity)
Community
& Communication
Provide a series of Educational Issue Forums for
the school community throughout the school year
to help develop awareness of issues regarding
student learning and development and as well as
related topics.
Continue the Community Budget Forums to
encourage greater public understanding of the
school budget process, challenges and
opportunities. The Forums would help to promote
a closer link between the school community and
the school budget process.
