Gifted Education at Niskayuna

Definition: Niskayuna students who exhibit, or have the potential for, high performance capability in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, who excel in specific academic fields or who possess an unusual leadership capacity, require differentiated education and learning opportunities, beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program, in order to develop their full potential.

Board of Education Policy 4322 encourages educational programs which challenged and promote the realization of individual potential in all students. Policy 4410 states that “students may be grouped for instruction in order to improve instructional effectiveness, to maximize the use of resources available and to best meet practices according to educational research.”

The Board of Education encourages and supports initiatives and program flexibility permitting students to learn at a rate commensurate with their skills, abilities, performance and interests.

ALPHA —This humanities-based program serves students in grades 4-5. More information
