International Scholars Program Application and Selection Process

Each applicant for the International Scholars Program is required to submit the application online, or, they may request an electronic copy be sent to them. Interested applicants should inquire with the International Scholars Program coordinator, Mr. Bryan Mattice (bmattice@niskyschools.org) in advance of the application deadline. The deadline for applicants for the 2020-2021 academic year is May 1, 2020.

Applicants are required to respond to a variety of questions concerning their personal interests, family life, academic history, and interests, as well as their English language proficiency. Responses to several English-language prompts are also required of applicants. Some students may be asked to provide additional evidence of their English-language proficiency. In addition, each student must provide two letters of recommendation from past teachers. Finally, each student applicant will be subject to an interview (typically conducted via Skype or another form of video chat) by the International Scholars Program coordinator and another member of the Niskayuna High School faculty.

The International Scholars Program’s application committee chooses candidates based on a variety of criteria, including, but not limited to: previous academic performance, English language proficiency, writing quality, content of the student’s recommendation letters, as well as the student’s performance during the interview process. The application committee includes the International Scholars Program coordinator (Mr. Mattice), as well as additional members of the Niskayuna High School administration, faculty, and staff.
