The Annual VA Read-a-Thon, held Friday evening January 16, turned out to be way more than only reading. Coordinated by the sixth grade team, the event attracted more than 160 students, including approximately 25 high school role model students who shared their love of reading.
The students, many faculty members, and parent volunteers read during three blocks of time. When not reading the students were involved in playing a game in the gym that is reserved only for the read-a-thon and only spoken about on that night! More importantly, when not reading, students created food "warm-up" kits for delivery to the Schenectady Inner City Mission (SICM) food pantry. Participants were asked to bring dog or cat food to donate to SICM also.
